Abortion Procedures

There are two different types of abortion procedures: a medical abortion and a surgical abortion. A medical abortion is performed by taking a series of two medications, 48 hours apart from one another, to end an early pregnancy. A surgical abortion involves having the fetus removed through surgery.

Abortion Risks

Like any procedure, there are risks associated with abortion. Risks include infection, incomplete abortion, heavy bleeding, allergic reaction to drugs, tearing of the cervix, scarring of the uterine lining, perforation of the uterus, damage to internal organs and death.

Abortion also carries risks relating to future pregnancies as well as emotional and spiritual consequences. Post-abortion syndrome symptoms may include guilt, anger, anxiety, depression, flashbacks, sexual dysfunction, relationship problems, and alcohol and drug abuse.
